Extending Term Limits for Jefferson County Officials We're not surprised that these measures failed handily (both with more than 57% against), because District Attorney Scott Storey and other supporters did virtually nothing to campaign for them. Storey, Sheriff Ted Mink and others got the County Commissioners to put them on the ballot, and then they put their feet up and waited for the YES votes to roll in. Term limit extensions have passed in other municipalities when supporters actually, you know, tried to push them through. With no vocal support, both measures were doomed from the start.
Jefferson County School Board Paula Noonan held off Richard Rush in a District 5 race that could have gone either way. The biggest change on the board will come from District 2, where Laura Boggs will bring a right-wing conservative voice to Jeffco by ousting Sue Marinelli.
Lakewood City Council Ward 4 Dave Wiechman pulled off one of the major surprises of 2009 by beating Amy Attwood, who was considered a potential rising star in the Republican Party.
Golden City Council Ward 1 Marcia Claxton pummeled incumbent Mary Weaver by more than 16 points. Weaver is a well-known rabble rouser in Golden, and there are no doubt many folks connected to the city who are happy to see her gone.
Arvada City Council At-Large Incumbent Aaron Azari appears to have lost to longtime Arvada resident Don Allard by less than 200 votes, though this race may still not be official.
