Lakewood City Council Line '09

Here's our take on Lakewood's City Council election to be held in November.
Jeffco Pols :: Lakewood City Council Line '09
Ward 1

Vicki Stack (1-1)

Vicki's by no means a talented campaigner or intellectual Councilor, but she's toned down her outbursts since 07's election, and has made a few more allies around the city. Though an effort was made to recruit candidates to run against her, no one had filed before the deadline, so Vicki's seat is a lock. Our condolences to ward mate Karen Kellan.

Ward 2

Scott Koop (3-1)

The husband of Ward 2's current, term-limited Councilor, Debbie, Scott has a lock on this seat so long as his yard signs look the same as those of his well-liked wife. We hear he picked the same color scheme.

Frank Teunissen (7-1)

Sorry, but barring any major sort of melt-down from his opponent, Frank's last name just isn't Koop.

Ward 3

Sue King (1-1)

Sue's a popular, talented councilor, well-liked by the majority of her colleagues. She wouldn't be going anywhere even if a candidate had been drafted to run against her.

Ward 4

Amy Attwood (5-1)

This is by far Lakewood's most competitive race. Amy, who was up until now the hyper-partisan Legislative Aide of HD-22 Rep. Ken Summers, communicates well to everyone. This is most likely because she's gained a bit of a reputation for telling voters specifically what they want to hear. Does this make her a strong candidate? Perhaps. But if elected to Council, she's going to piss off at least half of her constituency. Many also see this spot in Lakewood as a stepping stone for Attwood to run for Ken's seat when he's termed out.

Dave Wiechman (7-1)

Dave has been out knocking on doors, and he's got Ward 4 blanketed in his cliche American flag yard-signs. After his loss to Adam Paul in 07, Dave has honed his campaign skills a tad. That said, Attwood is running a professional campaign, where Dave is still your average fire-board member taking the next logical step. Unfortunately, he's still rocking that facial hair. At heart, Dave's still just a red-faced version of Santa Claus. Enough to win this seat? Maybe. He's certainly got the yard signs.

Ward 5

Diana Allen (4-1)

The incumbent, Diana's moderately liked in her ward. She can be loud and brash, but in light of her opponent, that really isn't an issue. Unfortunately, Allen's campaign still isn't really all that structured, despite help from almost anyone progressively minded in her district. She'll probably keep the seat, but it may be more of a fight than it should've been had Allen actually dedicated time to campaign.

Natalie Menten (7-1)

Natalie's become the crazy conservative icon of Lakewood and parts of Jeffco, and it's a title she duly earned in her run against Sen. Boyd in '08. She may have name ID with the right-wingers in her district, but is that enough to win in what was Steve Burkholder's ward? At the end of the day, Natalie comes off as a bit too anti-tax, but then again, this is the age of tea-bagging.

Linda Auburn - NOT Running For Commissioner!
REMOVE MY NAME from you Jeffco Line, I am NOT running for Jefferson County Commissioner.  I have a child to raise without a father and you people have added stress to my life with putting this LIE in print.

I have a wonderful job as a Teacher's Aide in Jefferson County schools and you may have put my job in jeopardy with this lie.

Repeat, I am NOT running for any office.

My husband Dave Auburn was a good and faithful servant to the people of Jefferson County.  Dave was the Best Corporate Manager this county ever could have and the people of Jefferson County chose not to re-elect him.  Jefferson County's loss and my and our son's gain.

I demand a public apology from the person who printed this lie and an immediate retraction of my name from this site as a candidate.

Can we get Arvada's up?
Lots of competitive races in all districts this time.

If you've got a good rundown
Please do post it as a diary
